WNY Weekly: Spring Teases, Dyngus Day, and a Market That’s Heating Up
March 30–April 5
Spring in Buffalo… take your pick.
Are you currently staring at your hallway closet wondering if today is a “heavy winter parka” or a “light denim jacket” kind of day?
If so… welcome to March 30th in Buffalo.
You’re probably feeling that classic Western New York whiplash—where one hour it’s a gorgeous 55 degrees, and the next you’re questioning your life choices as a lake-effect squall rolls through.
But honestly? That’s just part of the charm.
We’re in that weird, wonderful transition where the mud is real, the potholes are developing their own personalities, and the Western New York real estate market is officially waking up from its winter slumber.
If you’re thinking about diving into homeownership-or just looking for a reason to leave the house this week-you’re in the right place.
The Buffalo “Spring” Tease: Keep Your Jacket Handy
We’re getting there.
Let’s be real for a second. We all want to believe spring is here.
We see one crocus pop up and suddenly we’re looking for flip-flops. But if you’ve lived here for more than twenty minutes… you know better.
This week, we’re looking at highs in the 50s, maybe even flirting with the 60s for a quick minute. It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to walk the trails at Chestnut Ridge or start casually browsing homes.
Just don’t pack away the ice scraper yet. Buffalo likes to keep us humble. The Real Estate Reality Check: Spring 2026
Laughter, Art, and a Little Drama (The Good Kind)
Laughter, Art, and a Little Drama
If the gray skies are getting to you, this week’s local lineup is exactly what you need.
There’s something about Buffalo’s culture that really comes alive this time of year.
Keep an eye on upcoming shows at Shea's Performing Arts Center—there’s always a strong mix of comedy, theater, and live performances, and it’s one of the absolute crown jewels of the city.
Local galleries like The Phoenix are also kicking off new spring exhibits, which is a great way to support local artists and reconnect with the community.
Over at Shea's 710 Theatre, spring productions are in full swing, offering a more intimate theater experience if you haven’t checked it out yet.
And if you love supporting emerging talent, the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts typically hosts MFA Dance Thesis performances in early April-always creative, always impressive.
Dyngus Day in Buffalo: Why It’s a Big Deal (and a Really Fun One)
Everybody is Polish on Dyngus Day in Buffalo
If you’re new to Buffalo, you might be wondering why everyone is suddenly talking about Dyngus Day like it’s a major holiday.
Because here… it kind of is.
Buffalo is widely known as the Dyngus Day Capital of the World, and the celebration is a huge part of spring- especially in the Polonia district, where Polish heritage is front and center.
It lands on the Monday after Easter and celebrates the end of Lent, spring renewal, and Polish traditions that have deep roots in the city.
A few things you’ll see (or experience):
Pussywillows everywhere - carried around like little spring good-luck charms
Water splashing - yes, it’s a thing… and yes, it can happen anywhere
Live music, dancing, and a LOT of energy
While it feels like pure chaos (the fun kind), it’s actually connected to early Polish Christian traditions dating back to the 966 A.D. baptism of Prince Mieszko I.
Bottom line: it’s loud, welcoming, and one of those “you have to experience it at least once” Buffalo traditions.
The Real Estate Market: It’s Heating Up (Even If the Weather Isn’t)
Just listed in Buffalo- a classic Buffalo double at 434 Potomac
You’ve probably heard the headlines:
“The market is impossible.”
“Everything is too expensive.”
“Houses are gone in ten minutes.”
So… is it actually that bad?
Not necessarily. But it is fast.
If you’ve been watching the market in places like Amherst, Tonawanda, or Clarence, you’ve probably noticed how quickly homes are moving-especially once we hit spring.
This is historically the busiest time of year.
Buyers who paused over the winter are back out in full force, and inventory is still tight. That combination creates competition-especially for move-in ready homes in desirable areas.
If you’re a seller, this is a great position to be in.
If you’re a buyer, especially a first-time buyer, it can feel like trying to win a game where no one fully explained the rules.
Keys Without the Chaos: A Better Way to Start
If you’ve been thinking about buying, this is where it starts.
Let’s talk about that for a second.
Buying your first home can feel overwhelming.
You’re asking all the right questions:
Can I actually afford this?
What happens if the inspection goes sideways?
How do I even start the mortgage process?
It’s a lot.
Which is exactly why I’m hosting a first-time homebuyer seminar:
Keys Without the Chaos
📍 KeyBank Northtowns Branch
📅 Tuesday, April 14th
This isn’t a boring lecture—it’s a real conversation with a full team there to guide you through the process.
You’ll hear from:
Mark Boudreau (KeyBank) – breaking down financing and pre-approvals
Dara Ordon (Attorney) – covering contracts and protecting your interests
Me (Kristina Krygier) – walking through how to actually navigate this market and win
If you’re even thinking about buying this year, this will give you clarity, confidence, and a real plan.

Why Buffalo’s Market Feels Different Right Now
Buffalo-Steady, strong, and always a little underrated
If you’ve been paying attention to national news, you’ve probably heard a lot about market slowdowns or “bubble talk.”
But Buffalo is different.
We haven’t seen the kind of dramatic shifts some other areas have-and that’s because our market has always been more steady.
We still have:
Relatively affordable home prices compared to national averages
A growing medical corridor and emerging tech presence
Strong demand for housing across Western New York
People want to be here.
And because of that, if you’re buying, preparation matters more than ever.
Waiting “just one more weekend” can be the difference between getting the house… and missing it.
Let’s Make a Plan
Let’s talk it through-no pressure.
For now, enjoy the week.
Get outside when the sun shows up.
Support something local.
Maybe grab some pierogi and start mentally preparing for Dyngus Day.
And if you’re even 1% curious about what your home might be worth-or what you could afford to buy-let’s talk.
No pressure. No confusing jargon.
Just a real conversation about your goals and what makes sense for you.
And seriously-sign up for that seminar. It’s the easiest way to take the stress out of the process before you even begin.
In the meantime… keep your umbrella in the car and your snow brush in the trunk (just in case).
This is Buffalo, after all.
Wouldn’t want it any other way.
